ABOUT THE AUTHORS

Elizabeth Jeglic, PhD

Dr. Elizabeth L. Jeglic is a mother of three young children and a sexual violence prevention researcher. It is her desire to make the world a better and safer place for her kids that fuels her work. She is a Professor of Psychology at John Jay College in New York, NY. She received her doctorate in clinical psychology from Binghamton University and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania under the mentorship of Dr. Aaron T. Beck. Dr. Jeglic is the author of three books - Sexual Violence - Evidence Based Policy and Prevention (Springer) and Protecting your Child from Sexual Abuse (Skyhorse) and New Frontiers in Offender Treatment (Springer). She has also published over 100 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters. She has received grants from the National Institute of Justice and the American Association for Suicide Prevention to fund her research. She is an Associate Editor of the journal Sexual Abuse and is on the editorial board of Psychology, Public Policy and Law. Along with Dr. Cynthia Calkins, she is co-Director of the Sex Offender Research Lab (SORL) at John Jay College (www.sorl.org). In 2015, she was awarded the Fay Honey Knopp Award from the New State Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers for her contributions to the prevention of sexual violence. Dr. Jeglic lives with her husband and three children in small town New Jersey.

Cynthia Calkins, PhD

Dr. Cynthia Calkins is a mother of two young boys and a sexual violence prevention researcher. It is her desire to make the world a safer place by translating research findings into easy to follow practices for parents and others who work with children.  She is a Professor of Psychology at John Jay College in New York, NY. She received her doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of Nebraska’s Law Psychology Program and completed postdoctoral training at Monash University and the Forensicare Institute in Melbourne, Australia. Dr. Calkins is the author of three books - Sexual Violence: Evidence Based Policy and Prevention (Springer) and Protecting your Child from Sexual Abuse (Skyhorse) and New Frontiers in Offender Treatment (Springer). She has also published over 70 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters. She has received grants from the National Institute of Justice to fund her research. She is on the editorial boards of the journals Sexual Abuse and Psychology, Crime, and Law. Along with Dr. Elizabeth Jeglic, she is co-Director of the Sex Offender Research Lab (SORL) at John Jay College (www.sorl.org).
